In the United States, there are 33.2 million small businesses, but only 3.1 million of them are Black-owned. Only 4% of Black-owned businesses survive the startup stage, and 8 out
of every 10 will close within the first 18 months due to the
lack of resources, support, systemic barriers, and ongoing social injustices.
Despite the many obstacles faced, Black-owned businesses continue to play an essential role in the economy and community development. They provide jobs for over 1 million people, offer culturally specific resources and services to underserved areas, and advocate for societal changes that benefit everyone.
